NovaBone
Products, LLC will lead the synthetic bone grafting materials industry with the
most advanced and safest technology available. NovaBone Products will exploit
the fact that its technology yields synthetic bone grafting materials that are
safe from disease transmission, osteoconductive, osteostimulative, and 100%
resorbed! NovaBone Products will focus on the doctors who use grafting materials
and seek to deliver to them user friendly products and excellent service.

Bioglass®
Science

The
science platform is a bioactive glass, 45S5 Bioglass®, composed entirely of elements
naturally occurring in body chemistry that release ions into local body
environments in concentrations needed to facilitate key biological processes at
that site. This is a dynamic, well documented core technology.

Osteostimulation
Bioactive glasses are not
only osteoconductive but also osteostimulative. Enhanced rates of bone formation
is demonstrated due to a complex physical and chemical interaction of graft
particles with the defect area.
Osteostimulation
is the stimulation of osteoblast proliferation and differentiation as evidenced
during in vitro osteoblast cell culture studies by increased DNA content and
elevated osteocalcin and alkaline phosphatase levels. |

Properties
Bioactive glass undergoes
resorption by a combination of cellular mechanism and chemical dissolution. The
surface area of bioactive glass upon implantation increases multifold. Studies
have demonstrated that only 10-15% of the graft material remains at the end of 6
months.

Safety
Particulate
bioactive glass has been used as a bone graft material for the filling of
osseous defects since 1994. Good tissue healing and a lack of infections
noted with its use in oral periodontal studies suggested an antibacterial effect
for this material.

Hemostasis
Bioglass has been shown to reduce
the clotting time of blood by 25% in laboratory tests (Lee-White Coagulation).
Ionic release of calcium (Clotting factor IV) is considered a reason for its
hemostatic properties.
