Osteostimulation is defined as an active stimulation of osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, as evidenced during in vitro studies by increased levels of DNA synthesis and of the osteoblast markers "osteocalcin" and " alkaline phosphatase". Through an ionic exchange PerioGlas first acts as a scaffolding around and through which new bone forms. In vivo studies have demonstrated that this osteostimulative property results in stimulation and acceleration of new bone formation in an osseous defect. The supporting data has not yet been established in humans. A detailed explanation of this phenomenon can be found on the page about "Osteostimulation".
NovaBone Putty is an osteoconductive, bioactive, bone void filler device. It is composed of a calcium-phosphorus-sodium-silicate (Bioglass) particulate mixed with a synthetic binder that acts as a temporary binding agent for the particulate. The particulate and binder are provided premixed as a pliable cohesive material. On implantation, the binder is absorbed to permit tissue infiltration between the Bioglass particles. The particles are slowly absorbed and replaced by new bone tissue during the healing process.
NovaBone Products LLC expanded its operations by opening a new office in China in 2006. The operations at this location will be headed by Dr. Jipin Zhong who has been with NovaBone Products since its inception. |
